Cricket Protein and Body Autonomy
The way the FDA is handling a new sneaky food ingredient is beyond nightmare fodder, it sounds like a conspiracy theory someone who wears tinfoil hats would tell you outside a gas station. Anytime the “vibes” are OFF dishonest practices are right behind.
Entomophagy, the practice of eating insects, is not new however; it has been recorded throughout human history across the globe28,29.
Here is my personal beef with the handling of what is becoming a more popular ingredient. Disclosure.
Intentional obfuscation of ingredients by companies should be a crime but once again, as expected the FDA has chosen the path of greasy palms and balsa wood backbones. In a country where there is already a well acknowledged issue of companies deceiving consumers now intentionally choosing language to conceal the truth ex:acheta domesticus (scientific name for the common house cricket) is disgusting. Eat bugs if you want but there are people out there who don’t read ingredients and will not notice that their kid’s breakfast bars have bugs in it, they’re going to be happy they ate.
